I believe our relationship with dogs will keep improving and people will start seeing animals as living beings that feel just like we do.
A few years ago I stumbled by pure chance upon utterly devastating authentic videos from Romanian state shelters, where dogs were brutally killed without any empathy or respect for a living being. I couldn't understand what was happening there. It wouldn't let me rest, and I gradually started digging deeper into the causes of such brutal treatment.
I then began working with people who were actively helping with rescue directly in Romania. I volunteered to help save dogs from certain death – otherwise, in these facilities, dogs are ruthlessly euthanized after 14 days.
I personally fostered a dog named Brownie from one of the state shelters, who has now been adopted for several years, and I'm still in touch with his adopters. During those years I approached rescue more emotionally and struggled to set the boundaries that are quite important in this line of work.
I keep trying to help, and I believe that our relationship with dogs, and animals in general, will keep improving, and people will start seeing them as living beings that feel just like we do – rather than mistaking them for "living objects" to be used whenever it's convenient.
